Does this sound familiar?

  • A key has snapped in the cylinder
  • A fragment prevents another key entering
  • A worn key has broken while turning

Your door and lock matter.

Extraction depends on the fragment’s position and the condition of the lock. A broken key may also indicate a stiff mechanism or worn cylinder.

What to expect.

Keep the remaining key piece if available. After removal, the lock should be assessed to understand why the key broke and whether it is suitable for continued use.

Do not add glue, insert another key or push improvised tools into the keyway.

What influences the cost?

The fragment position, lock damage, access and any replacement parts influence the quote. Extraction is not a guarantee that the existing lock can be retained.

A few useful answers.

Can I glue the key together?

Do not put glue in the lock. It can damage the mechanism and complicate assessment.

Will I need a new lock?

It depends on the cause of the break and the lock’s condition. The options should be discussed after assessment.
